Anyway I've been having a look and here are my favourite Autumn finds so far!

Things They Don't Tell You About Having A Newborn

having a baby by UK lifestyle blog The Claire Diaries

On Wednesday night I went to our weekly Bake Off night! I ate far too much Oreo cake and washed it down with huge amounts of tea....it was FAB.

Anyway whilst there we obviously sat around chatting like old hens. There were 5 of us there this week plus little Miss.
Two of the girls are pregnant and one has a 10 week old baby. Naturally the conversation turned to birth stories and it got me thinking that not many people tell you really what happens in the first few hours and days with your newborn. We spent a good hour talking about our "first times" with our babies and imparting our wisdom on the two pregnant chicks so I thought I would share our wisdom with you too.

Yes the euphoria takes over and you're suddenly overwhelmed with a lot of visitors but what next??

1. Nappy Change....Happens Quickly & You Won't Be Prepared.

Yes the first nappy change can happen pretty quickly after birth. Its disgusting you are never prepared for it! How something so small can produce something so vile is beyond me? Anyway I can virtually guarantee you won't have everything immediatley to hand. You will then spend 10 mins deliberating how to get from the side of the bed to the cupboard without shit going everywhere!
Top Tip sleep with nappies, wipes, spare babygrow under your pillow!

2. Getting to the Shops = Scary!!

You spend 3-4 days holed up in the house after the birth. You've had your fill of visitors cooing over the baby and decide you need to shift the cabin fever and take your new pram (obvs needs showing off it cost like £2987892748973498) to the shop.
Suddenly what should be a 10 min walk takes 2 hours.
The baby needs feeding before you go then winding and changing. You set off to the shop changing bag ready under the pram and you realise you can't get anything else in the pram!
Heave forbid you should actually drive......try find a parking space big enough, assemble the pram and get baby out.......Yeah good luck there.....by 8 months you might have it figured out!

3. Unreasonable....You....Never??

You suddenly spend hours on end losing precious precious sleep over the most ridiculous deathly scenarios......I mean obviously an eagle will swoop through that slightly open window and steel your baby in the 30 seconds it takes to make a much needed cuppa!

4. Not One Mother Knows What They Are Doing

Everyone starts off in the same boat! Sure you'll get visits from well meaning friends and relatives telling you how they did things and you "really" should do it their way!
You want the truth? What works for them probably will NOT work for you!

5. Sleep!!!!

Yes you will sleep again! I know it probably doesn't feel like it but you will...however I can assure you, you will probably not sleep in the same way as you did pre baby until they are 18+.....I know i'm still waiting 12 years on!!!

Bake Off is Back

The Great British Bake Off Party by UK Lifestyle Blog The claire diaries

I'm a little late with this post this year but THE BAKE OFF IS BACK and I for one am so bloody happy!

I blogged about my love for the Bake Off Last year and I can safely say I'm no nearer learning to bake than I was then. Admittedly eating and baking cakes isn't good for my on again off again sugar free diet.

Over the course of this year I've made some really amazing friends! One of whom can bake!!!! Pretty sure she is the only person I know that can! Anyway. It was decided that every week the bake off is on we would have a little tea party at my friends house complete with vintage china and cake!
It has been lovely so far this year.

Made even better by the fact that there is no alcohol involved and Little Miss D gets to come with me every week!

At the moment I'm feeling really grateful for having such amazing people in my life - and amazing Cake!

Preserving Memories

Printing digital photos UK lifestyle Blog -The Claire Diaries

Since I had the kids we've been taking photos of them almost daily. I love documenting them growing up and seeing how much they've changed. It's also nice to look back on days out and remember the good times we've spent with them.

I have loads of files on my laptop just full of digital family photos, and other than print and frame the odd few I've never done anything with them.

Printing Digital Photos By The Claire Diaries

A couple of weeks ago I was trawling the internet and saw that Photobox had an offer on printed photobooks.
I've been thinking about buying some coffee table books for a while now but never gotten round to it and thought this would be a nice addition when I finally do get round to buying some.

So I spent some time sorting out my photos - trying to get an even number of each child included in the book - No need to cause more arguments, and set about uploading them.
This was a fairly easy and painless process. The difficulty came in deciding which picture should go where.

I was fairly sure it would take a while for the book to be delivered, there was a lot of pages (100+ I think) to print but it arrived pretty quickly - within about 4 days I think.

Presenting Digital Photos by UK Lifestyle Blog The Claire Diaries

The quality of the pages is lovely! Some of the prints have come out a little bit blurry but you can only really tell if you look super closely. Baring in mind these books aren't really meant to be studied too hard you really wouldn't know.

Overall I am so happy with the quality and the service provided by Photobox. I'm hoping the book survives sticky fingers and becomes a piece of family history that the kids will one day look at and remember the good times.

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things

UK Lifestyle blog - my fave things

What would you take to a desert island? You will no doubt have been asked this question in the past. It makes a great ice breaker when you meet new people.
Obviously after you've thought about taking your kids, other half, cats, dogs etc you can turn to thinking about material things that you would take with you.

I decided to give some thought to this question,
I would obviously want to take photos and memories with me, but it was more interesting to answer this question thinking about the items I use in my day to day life that I couldn't possibly live without.........

1) My Laptop (praying there was a random Wifi connection - yes I know unlikely)
I have a pretty basic laptop not a fancy Mac one but I do LOVE it. I use it everyday, mainly for watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix (WHO IS A????) but it also gets used for work and blogging. My laptop contains all my photos and music and therefore most of my memories from the last few years,

2) My IPhone.
I mean....obvs.......I'm ashamed to say it but I am fairly glued to my Iphone. I'm always checking Instagram or Twitter for work and pleasure. I use the camera on an almost hourly basis and of course it contains all my fave workout playlists for when I'm hitting the gym.

UK Lifestyle Blog - Orange River Island Chain Strap Bag

3) Orange Camera/Handbag
Technically this bag isn't a camera bag, but I find it the perfect size to carry my camera, spare lens and still fit my purse and phone in.
I do really need to buy a camera cube to protect my camera when I'm out and about.

UK Lifestyle Blog - Canon dslr digital camera

4) DSLR Camera
This is a fairly recent development. I bought my camera not to long ago for blogging purposes. To be honest at first I found it a bit embarassing taking such a big camera pretty much everywhere with me let alone whipping it out in some pretty random places but now it's become like second nature to me......"Blogger Problems"

5) Rimmel "Kate" Lipstick in Shade 40.
Another recent development. I've started wearing Lipstick. I'm not sure when this started to be honest but I can't get enough of pretty nude colour lipsticks. For either day time or a night out this has to be my absolute favourite.
It's moisturising and pigmented giving a nice natural colour.

UK Lifestyle Blog - Rimmel Lipstick and Garnier BB Cream

6) Garnier BB Cream.
I've mentioned this before and would be a must if I was left on a desert island. It contains SPF and provides amazing coverage but isn't too cakey. Perfect for hot summer, beach weather!

What would you need to take to a desert island?

Ear Piercing!

When I found out I was having a baby girl I was over the moon - I mean I would have been if I was having a boy but there's something special about the bond between a mother and her daughter. Yes that bond can be tested a lot - mine never more so when my then 5 year old announced on Christmas Eve that she wanted her Ears Piercing!

This wasn't something I was ready for.....I was sure she'd be a lot older when ear piercing became an issue?

Cue a lot of stressing by me about what the best age was in order to let her get her ears pierced - the next thing I know we're off to the shop to get them done as an extra Christmas present!

Body Jewellery Shop Earings

To be totally honest there wasn't an awful lot of time to create a reasoned argument in my head. My initial thoughts were if Little Miss can remove them for PE, the ear rings are not very big and is willing to sit and have them done without it causing world war three then why not?
In actual fact I was hoping we'd get there and little miss would change her mind - Clearly not!

UK Lifestyle Blogger - reviewing The Body Jewellery Shop

So.....when these super cute little dice ear rings came through my letter box courtesy of the Body Jewellery Shop, Little Miss snapped them up straight away! They happened to arrive the same week as her Birthday - who am I to want them anyway!
In her defence they do tick all the boxes. They're made from Sterling Silver with butterfly back, are super tiny so as not to impact on any of her daily activities! How could she resist?

Contemplating - Time for Change.....

UK Lifestyle blog thinking about the future

This year has truly been one of the hardest of my life.
Everything seems to be happening and as a result I'm finding that more and more I feel like I'm drowning and struggling to keep up with everything!

I hate feeling like I'm moaning all the time and really don't want this to turn into a miserable post.
This last few weeks has seen me seriously contemplating my future and at the minute I'm really can't decide where I want things to go.
Stress has become a very prolific part of my life and as a result I seem to be suffering all kinds of illnesses aches and pains.
Whilst I've come to the decision that it's OK to not know how I want my life to pan out and it's OK to take each day as it comes I can't seem to shift the stresses and feelings associated with it.

Review: LUSH - Popcorn Lip Scrub

It has been ages since I last went into Lush. I very rarely go in as it can be a nightmare with the mini beast! I either end up spending a fortune or I spend the whole time worrying about the fact she's touching everything!

So after seeing so many Lush hauls on YouTube I though I would pop in and see what all the fuss was about.
So after a mega quick browse I found myself stood at the till with a basket full of bath bombs.....I'm a total sucker for picking things up at the till and I ended up grabbing a pot of the Lip Scrub in Popcorn flavour - The addiction continues.....It does smell amazing though and is edible!

Lush lip scrub review by UK Lifestyle blogger

So what did I think??
The smell and taste is amazing! They have included salt in the ingredients so it's great for healing cut and broken lips.
It's not very practical! I found that I could only use this at night or when home and not seeing anyone for a while. The reason being I looked like a messy child after applying it.
I also think it is somewhat over priced. at £5 something you only get a little pot which I can't see lasting all that long?

Lush Product Review

But Did It Work? Overall YES! I actually quite like it. It has left my lips feeling soft and looking a million percent better than they did. It's also made my lip stick go on a lot easier and generally look nicer!
Although somewhat over priced I think I would buy it again!

What do you think to the Lip Scrubs?

Make Mistakes, and Other Things I Would Tell Myself!

UK lifestyle blogger letter to a teenage me

I'm back!!! I have been full of cold and flu this past week and couldn't bring myself to blog! I have been doing some researching and reading though so am hoping some good things will start to happen with this blog in the coming weeks!!

Lately I've been reading a lot of "What I would tell myself posts" and given how much my life has changed in the past few months I thought it might be an idea to write one myself?

Dear 16 Year Old Me..........

You've made it to 30! A lot has happened and not in the way you thought it might? Some of it good, some of it bad but it's made you the person you are today! If I could tell you anything it's to follow these eight pieces of advice!

1) Make Mistakes - Make lots of them! Learn from them but never regret any of them! Regrets aren't worth having, they make you miserable. Own your mistakes and move on. It will make you a much happier person in the long run.

2) You're not ugly and you're really not fat! Stay away from Pizza and Crap! I know you don't like it now, but when you fall pregnant in 2 years time ignore the cravings and keep away from it. You will get fat and it's much harder to lose the weight when you're older.
You have more willpower than you give yourself credit for!

3) Make lots of Friends! I know you're boy mad at the minute but boys won't be there for you when things go wrong! Make lots of friends and find a really good best friend who you can always turn to!

4) Alcohol - Yes you're going to drink it. I know you're sensible! Just remember cosmopolitan cocktails are great in moderation. They will make you sick and make you fall down - this is not a good look!

5) Maybeline Dream Matt Mousse - Seriously this is not a good foundation! Your face will be a different colour to your neck and you will look orange in every picture. I know you're skint now but invest in good skincare - Your 30 year old self will thank you for it!

6) Don't worry what other people think of you and stop worrying what you think of other people! Just let things happen and let things be!

7) Stay away from the tweezers! You might like super skinny eyebrows but me at 30 doesn't, We're having a nightmare trying to grow them back properly! Get them waxed from the start - honestly you'll thank me!

8) You will be happy! You won't get everything you want but you will get different things! We're 30 now and we've got two gorgeous kids, a lovely house and a great job. Life hasn't exactly gone the way we planned but its a good different!

Hang in there kid! It all works out for the best!

7 Steps Ways to have the Perfect Pamper Night!

This is something I've been doing a LOT of lately! Spending time relaxing and taking time for myself.

UK Lifestyle blogger 7 ways to have the perfect pamper night

Yes 99% of the time I feel selfish doing so but usually the little Miss is in bed and my son will be hiding in his pit/bedroom!
I've found having a girlie night to myself at least once a week has really helped me deal with a lot of the crap that's been going on in my life at the minute.

So here's what I do......

Step 1) Pour Wine - Or if I'm feeling really healthy a big glass of ice cold water! This then comes up to the bathroom with me and sits on the side of the bath! Until I'm in relaxed and ready to drink it. Be careful not to spill wine into the bath...I've done this a few times and its just really really annoying!

Step 2) Light all the Candles - I love having candles in the bathroom with me. Scented ones are the best! Turn the lights off and suddenly I feel a lot more relaxed.

Step 3) Products, products and more products. Right about now I do a hair and face mask and sit back and chill for a bit.

UK Lifestyle blogger - Girls night in How to

Step 4) Rinse! Then I usually rinse everything off. Wash my hair and get out and Moisturize.

Step 5) PJ time! This has to be the best part of the night for me! I put on my fave pjs and big comfy socks!

Step 6) Read or watch Netflix. I'm pretty addicted to Pretty Little Liars at the minute so I'm currently working my way through that!

Step 7) Turn off the light - Yep a nice and simple on. Turn off the light early and get a good nights sleep!

How do You Have A Perfect Pamper Night?

Eyebrow Tinting & Waxing First Ever Experience

Now I'm slightly ashamed to admit it but until last week I had never had my eyebrows waxed or tinted before.
I'd always opted instead to pluck them myself or in times of sheer desperation shave them!!!!!!!! I know not good at all and not something I would ever recommend!

UK Lifestyle blogger first eyebrow wax aged 30!

My first experience of waxing and tinting was a pretty damn good one if I'm honest.

Getting the tint put on was a somewhat daunting at first all I could see when I looked in the mirror were these 2 great massive thick eyebrows that resembled a recent drawing my daughter had done. However by the time they had been waxed I was thrilled with the outcome.

It took a couple of days for the tint to fade and I did spend the first 48 hours being told that I looked like this one from Dodgeball......

The Autumn Tag

It's been a while since I last posted and this time I do have a genuine reason. I've been suffering really badly with a nasty kidney infection. Thankfully I'm slowly on the mend and felt up to posting this new blog post!

As I've mentioned several times I am more than looking forward to Autumn.
It really is my favourite time of the year, mainly due to the hibernation aspect but also for all the exciting things the Autumn brings!
So for my first post back I decided to do the Autumn Tag!

The Autumn Tag from UK lifestyle and fitness blog

1. Ok we're talking coffee's - what's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/Costa/Cafe Nero etc?

I don't tend to drink too much coffee, particularly not from one of these fine establishments! If I go to Costa I'll often have a peach iced lemonade but think that is more a summer drink than an Autumn one.

2. Accessories - what do you opt for, scarf, boots, gloves?

All of the above! I love Autumn and winter fashion! Scarves and boots are by far and away my favourite Autumn wardrobe staple. I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect pair of winter boots and you'd be hard pressed to stop me buying new scarves.

3. Music - what's your favourite music to listen to during Autumn?

My music taste doesn't change. I don't really listen to music all that much other than when at the gym.

4. Perfume - what's your favourite scent for this time of year?

I don't tend to wear too much perfume.....Any recommendations?

Autumn UK lifestyle and fitness blog

5. Candles - what scents will you be burning this season?

I love winter berry fragrances, spice apple. About this time of year Glade tend to bring out their christmas range which always smells amazing!
I love the Yankee Candle ranges too but don't often buy them.

6. What do you love most about Autumn?

Sleep!!! I love snuggling up under the quilt. Going for country walks wrapped up but not being totally frozen. There's also the fact it's my birthday, wedding anniversary and halloween!

7. Favourite makeup look?

My make up stays much the same all year round. I tend to maybe warm up the look a bit with golds, and pale browns.

8. What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?

Strictly Come Dancing, My 30th, Wedding Anniversary, October Half Term (missing my kiddies)

Back to Routine!

Last week was a crazy busy week. Mostly spent getting the kids ready to go back to school!

This summer has been totally amazing! I've had a blast with these two little darlings......The weather has been amazing, which for the UK is fairly unheard of.
Juggling working from home and looking after the kids this summer has been a bit of a challenge, but I'm sure there are other mums out there who can relate!
Despite having an amazing time with the kids, I've found I've had to keep them seperate quite a bit to stop the arguing..............

I love the lack of routine in the Summer holidays. The chance to stay in bed and watch a film, go on long lazy picnics and just spend all day at the beach is great.
I'm now ready for the Autumn, it is after all my favourite season.

10 Things About Me

I've not been blogging for all that long so it strikes me that many of you won't know all that much about me!
So here are 10 things you didn't know.........

UK Lifestyle and Fitness Blogger

1) I'm originally a Yorkshire girl! Always will be at heart! Whilst I love living in Lincoln going back to Yorkshire always makes me feel a little bit happier

2) I suffer really badly with panic attacks and anxiety. This isn't something I'm proud of or like to talk about too much really - maybe one day.

3) I would love love love to own my own pretty traditional sweet shop.

4) I met my husband when I was 17

5) I had my son when I was 18!

6) I don't regret many things but I do regret letting myself put on so much weight and not taking proper care of myself.

7) I wish I'd gotten over worrying about what people think of me sooner and hit the gym harder when I was younger! The weight might have come off easier then!

8) I have three cats, Samba, Farrow and Fang. I'm still not sure if I'm a cat person but I prefer it when they are around.

9) I've only learnt to LOVE shopping within the last couple of months. I've spent 99% of my adult life hating shops - to be honest not sure if it's the shops or the way I felt when I couldn't fit in anything that I hated?

10) .....and FINALLY.......I am a HUGE Strictly Come Dancing Fan and am quite literally counting the days to when it will be back on!

North Norfolk Coast

UK Lifestyle Blog The Claire Diaries visits the Norfolk Coast

WARNING PICTURE HEAVY!!
This weekend we decided we would take the kids on a trip to the seaside. Having spent nearly 30 years visiting Whitby every summer I decided it would be nice to have a change and find another pretty , non tacky seaside town! We're also going camping in a few weeks so thought it would be good to investigate!

After nearly 4 hours in the car (traffic) we arrived in Wells next the Sea! It was gorgeous! The little town had just enough shops and a lovely little cafe. We spent about 2 hours wandering in and out of the shops and the kids had a go at crabbing.

To get to the beach we took the little land train. The beach was lovely and clean and had a fab sea channel which was perfect for the kids to jump and play in and we didn't have to worry too much!

Later on we headed to Hunstanton for Fish and Chips and to watch the sunset.

The kids had a great day! We will certainly be heading back there soon! I'm hoping to buy a beach hut :-)
